Some poor franchise always ends up buying into the college hype, ignoring the experts’ advice that a player’s game won’t translate well into the NFL. When that player is also considered a saint of a human being who is ready to save the world, the infatuation grows that much more. Denver, an organization who has already seen character issues doom its chances, was the perfectly gullible candidate to earn the title of 2010 NFL Draft Dumbass.

Well before Denver took Tim Tebow at #25, the Jacksonville Jaguars selected Tyson Alualu. Why is this relevant? Because Alualu’s high character is attributed to him becoming a shocking Top 10 selection. Even his agent Kenny Zuckerman, attempting to explain how his client was selected so high, said, “In this day and age, he’s just a solid guy. He’s married, he takes care of his kids, he goes to church, he goes to a great academic school. He just does it the right way and he was rewarded for that.”

So why aren’t the Jaguars, and not the Broncos, guilty of making the worst pick of the draft? It’s simple: We know what Tebow is all about. His games have been on display for all to see. While Alualu did play for Cal in the Pac-10, he has certainly not been scrutinized as heavily as Tebow. It’s the unknown factor that allows hope that the big defensive lineman could have a chance in the pros. Oh yeah, Alualu also has a position that will translate directly to the NFL.

Tim Tebow obviously has talent, but he’s years away from being a starting quarterback (if you think differently, take a look back at his dreadful performance in the Senior Bowl). Furthermore, the idea of putting special packages in for him to run some sort of “wildcat” is simply ridiculous. So, basically Denver has a great locker room guy who can throw a little and run a little. Somehow, that translates into being made the 25th overall pick…

Tebow says and does all the right things and has the motivation and attitude to prove all the critics wrong. However, when there’s a will, there isn’t always a way. There’s a little thing called talent that even the biggest of idiots can rely on to succeed in the NFL. Take a look at Brandon Marshall. Blessed with incredible raw ability, he has done almost everything possible to ruin his career, not to mention Denver’s playoff chances in 2009. Marshall, who has always been in trouble with the law, was suspended before the season even began for acting like a child during training camp. He was also benched for Denver’s season finale last year- a 20-point loss to the lowly Chiefs.

What do Marshall’s transgressions mean? Well, not much to the Dolphins, who have given him $24 million in guaranteed money. The sad truth is that, as long as you’ve got talent, you will be given three and four chances to overcome bad behavior. By trading Marshall, Denver should be given credit for allowing themselves to give up on a player who basically gave up on them (don’t forget about previous malcontent Jay Cutler, either). It’s certainly understandable that they are trying to change the culture of the team. However, moving from one extreme to the other is not the answer.

It’s a good sign to see that teams (well, at least the Jaguars and Broncos) place an importance on character, and that maybe nice guys don’t always finish last in a league full of prima-donnas. However, character doesn’t mean a whole lot after the ball is snapped. The Broncos will insist that they selected Tim Tebow based largely on his potential and skills. What the organization won’t admit is that they selected “Tim Tebow the Person” over “Tim Tebow the NFL Prospect”. Either way, they should be laughed at.

The loss to the Dallas Cowboys could have been considered as being a learning experience and every Saints fan took the loss with a grain of salt and then moved on. But when the next week of play rolled around, the New Orleans Saints lost again, and this time to the 2-12 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Now Saints fans are just a bit worried. Regardless of what has happened for the past two weeks, or what happens when the Saints face off against the Carolina Panthers, there spot in the playoffs has already been solidified. But it would be quite upsetting to all of those fans who have went out to spend money on a New Orleans Saints Jacket, or hat, or any other Saints apparel to see that the team that they had such high hopes for can’t even advance to the second round in the post season.

If they manage to get a win next week against the Carolina Panthers this will likely cause the Saints to have just a bit more momentum going into the post season. The problem is now that most of the teams that they will face in the playoffs are far more experienced than they are. Especially the Indianapolis Colts who it looks like they would most likely face in the Super Bowl if they were to actually make it that far. The Colts are all but looking unstoppable these days and Peyton Manning is looking more determined than ever to win his second Super Bowl. I honestly don’t believe that the Saints have what it takes to stop them.

So, have the New Orleans Saints actually lost their spark? to be honest it really doesn’t matter. Regardless of whether they have or haven’t at this point it does not look like they will have what it takes to succeed against the more experienced teams that they will have to face off in the feirce post season games.

He thought I’ve improved so much since I came to Notre Dame. So I’m taking his advice, and I’m going to head out” Clausen said. Clausen a junior quarterback for the Fighting Irish had his best season in 2009, putting up huge stats, that of a Heisman candidate. Clausen threw for 3,722 yards with 28 touchdowns, and a completion percentage of 68. The junior quarterback has much improved since coming to Notre Dame in 2007; he is a projected first round pick come April with the possibility of landing with St. Louis, Washington, or Cleveland, all three teams whom are in need of a switch at the quarterback position. Clausen and the Irish were 6-2 before dropping the final 4 games of the season and finishing 6-6, Notre Dame rejected an invitation to play in a bowl game. Fellow Notre Dame teammate wide receiver Golden Tate will also skip his senior season and enter the draft, Tate has the potential to be a big time wide out at the pro level, look for him to be a first rounder as well. Clausen was the No.1 recruit coming out of high school with a chance to play for Pete Carroll at USC, instead felt it was a better fit to join the Fighting Irish and Coach Charlie Weis.

“I don’t think I could’ve gone to a better place to get prepared to play than under someone like Coach Weis, the NFL is something I’ve always wanted to do since I was a little kid growing up. It’s just a dream come true, and I’m just having a great time right now, Clausen said. Notre Dame will now need to find a new quarterback to replace Clausen along with a new head coach for the 2010 college football season. Jimmy Clausen had as good of a high school career possible, he went 42-0 in every game he started and set a California state record with 146 touchdowns.

He was named the USA Today Offensive Player of the Year in 2006 along with the Hall Trophy, given to Clausen in his senior season; the award is given to the best high school football player in the country. Only a real screw up in the voting process would keep Texas from playing in the title game, so it’s said…and we shall see. – Alabama captured their 22nd SEC title which is an SEC record, the next closest to them is held by Tennessee with 13. Texas on the other hand has captured 31 conference titles in their team’s history. With the win tonight Texas coach Mack Brown had no problem stating that his team would be heading to the BCS title game, although their game on the field said otherwise, their 13-0 but just barely squeaking by against a horrible Nebraska offense – they were so bad, they couldn’t even pick up a first down up until the 4th quarter on their final drive, and it’s been like that all year long. Mangino has recently been the hot topic of discussion, as their have been numerous former and present players speaking out about his behavior and verbal abuse they would receive from their coach. Last month Kansas University said it would look into the treatment of their players by Mangino, within the following days many of his old and current players came forward and spoke of the degrading and insensitive remarks he would make when in the heat of the moment on the football field.

Mangio had been the head coach of Kansas for 8 years, the team made a BCS bowl appearance two years ago when they went an impressive 12-1 and beat Virginia Tech in the Fed Ex Orange Bowl 24-21 in January of 2008. Kansas started the 2009 season 5-0 but then ended up losing their last remaining 7 games. To his credit many former and current players have said Mangino was a vital part of strengthening their program and bringing the right kind of discipline to his players. Following their incredible 2007 season, the Jayhawks finished 2008 with an 8-5 record and a second straight post-season appearance something that had never been done in Kansas history. The 53 year old coach intended to return to KU for his 9th season, and insisted he did nothing wrong while coaching his football team.

Coach Mangino may have had his share of anger issues, but one thing was for sure while at Kansas, he turned a predominant basketball school into a hopeful football school. There is no word yet on who will replace Mark Mangino as head coach at Kansas. In 2007 Mangino won many Coach of the Year honors including the AP National Coach of the Year, it was the first time in Kansas football history that the Jayhawks football team had won 12 games in a season. He got his first coaching for in 1991 as an assistant at Kansas State, then moved to Oklahoma has as an offensive linesman coach and then a offensive coordinator, Mangino was given a shot as the head coach at Kansas University in 2002 but his first season wasn’t a pleasant one.

The team posted a 2-10 record overall while not winning one game in their conference going 0-8. The universities athletic director felt it was best that this be the route Mangino take while under these circumstances. “We appreciate the eight years that Mark has given to rebuilding our football program, it’s been tough on a lot of people, but probably the most important thing is the kids, it’s been pretty tough on them. The 80 year old met with the athletic director and president of Florida State in which he was given two options, either he could come back to FSU but have little input in their football program or he could retire, Bowden is choosing to retire. Coach Bowden has 388 career wins at Florida State which ranks him second on the all-time list behind Penn State coach Joe Paterno.

So after 34 years as FSU head football coach Bobby Bowden will not return to campus come fall, instead offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher will replace Bowden has head coach. Bowden led the Seminoles to two national championships, first in 1993 and then in 1999, they also won 12 ACC titles within 1992 to 2005. The 80 year Bowden has seen better days then the recent past, as his team finished the 2009 season with a 6-6 record, it was the 3rd time in four years that FSU lost six games. Bowden will step down as head coach after the Seminoles upcoming bowl game. Bowden was born in Birmingham Alabama in 1929; he attended the University of Alabama where he was quarterback from 1946 to 1948. He had six different coaching jobs before his final stop at Florida State in 1976. Bowden was selected to the Football Hall of Fame in 2006; he also holds the record for most winning seasons along with Alabama legendary coach Paul Bear Bryant, and Penn State coach Joe Paterno.

When Bobby Bowden took over as Florida State head coach he inherited a team that had only won 4 games in the previous 3 seasons. Bowden has the highest win percentage out of any head coach at Florida State with a record of 309-91 in his 34 seasons. Bowden led the Seminoles to three straight BCS national championship games in which they only won one, January 4, 2000 against the Virginia Tech Hookies. The 80 year old head coach would have liked to finish one more season with the team before calling it quits, the athletic director and president thought differently and told Bowden he could either be an ambassador to the program and have a small role or he could retire. Florida State’s offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher was the next in waiting to take over for the team once Bowen retired.

Fisher was a quarterback in college and was named NCAA Division III Player of the Year. Fisher started his college coaching career in 1991 at Samford University as an offensive coordinator. The bottom line is, coach Bowden was past his prime as a head coach, he built the FSU program from nothing and turned it into a national powerhouse, it will be tough for any head coach to repeat the success of Bowden.
